![]() ![]() One is a 47-year-old D-5 and the other the 35+ year old DR28H. The reason I am not sure if the cost for a Classic D is justified, for me, is I played two Sigma's by Martin a few days ago. I hand her card back and say "I haven't decided yet, not sure if I can justify the cost". Yesterday the wife hands me her card and says, "Order your Martin". So here we are again, and I settled on a Martin after playing (testing) Martins for two months. The price of D-45's don't even put them on my radar as potential purchases. I know there are plenty of fans of the MIM HPL Martins who love them, my brother included, but after owning a D-28, every Martin I have played since has been "lesser" except the D-45's I played at Sam Ash in Charlotte. Then the next time, a few years ago, after spending weeks playing dozens of Martins, I walk out of GC with a Yamaha A1M for the same reason. For what I was looking for in an acoustic, it blew the MIM Martins out the water for around the same price. The first time, I played dozens of Martins and other guitars and walked out with a Takamine EG335SC instead of a Martin. A MIM Martin or most likely the lowest end Nazareth made Martin. Not a D-28 or some other high-end Martin. Over the last ten years my wife has handed me money to "Go buy a Martin" twice, for my birthday. (Sellers regret 2 minutes after selling). I have wanted another Martin since I sold my last one. This should be “Why I was going to buy another Martin, and for the third time bought something else†or “Why some Sigma’s are real Martins†and some history of Martin Sigma’s. ![]()
